It has 390 meters of black sand with a width of approximately eight meters. La Arena nurtures in the magnificent conditions of the southeast coast of Lanzarote, sheltered from strong prevailing winds and almost always clear. The beach is situated only a few steps away from the peaceful marine village of Playa Quemada. When there is a low tide it is possible to reach the beach by foot, previously you will pass through Cala de Quemada (in the same village), but when there is high tide we should consider climbing a small mountain and make our way down the old goats paths that are frequently seen in the natural protected area of Los Ajaches.

From above the figure of La Arena is majestic. A postcard frame is created thanks to the powerful image of the black sand blending in its soft blue waters. The stillness of the sea and the striking high temperatures on this coastal strip allow you to swim all year round. This beach, together with its neighbouring beaches Cala de Quemada and El Pozo (a little further south), have the most parsimonious pockets of the island, but ironically are the least busy. Your stay, therefore, guarantees you maximum serenity.

The south margin of La Arena is dominated by its spacious black sand, however on the north side by its natural stone slabs that are surrounded by nearby smaller rocky mountain peaks. The pervasive silence is broken by the murmur of the sea perched on the shore. Some seagulls can be seen flying in an apparent merciful attitude over the few bathers that are below. If only the seagulls were to realize the beneficial effects of being surrounded by the magical aridness of La Arena. For those that are adventurous or that are nature lovers we recommend that you complement your swim with a prior trek crossing Los Ajaches, Femes – Playa Quemada.

What to do before or after:

An ideal tourist route for bathers on the south coast of Lanzarote, close enough to allow you the opportunity to visit Timanfaya. If you are on the beach we recommend that you combine the pleasure of a prior trek crossing between Femes and Playa Quemada. Bathing knows best!
