This is known as one of the little known treasures of Lanzarote. The natural pools of Charcones form a haven of relaxation. Away from the busy tourist resort of Playa Blanca and its densely populated beaches, to get lost in this natural sea would result in a powerful battery charge. On the clear sheltered southwest coastline of the island, Los Charcones benefits from a cooler climate due to the dominate winds within the area which create a bearable temperature.

The pools extend from approximately two kilometers north of Faro de Pechiguera heading northwards towards Janubio. The most spectacular coves coincide with a nearby abandoned hotel. This gloomy building has been standing since the mid 70´s and ruins this beautiful and majestic stretch of coastline. As the sea renews the pools waters, orographic shapes are formed in the lava passages.

Entering is safe although extreme caution is necessary during your journey to reach the pools. Once you are down its time to enjoy. There are some pools that have great depth and allow you to take big jumps and others that are shallow inviting you to a relaxing dip, clearly a matter of taste.
The quietness of this area allows relaxation. A good book would be the perfect companion. If in a group you could take advantage of the stoned coves and make a barbecue. Another option would be to go on a natural pools tour. Walk from the south to the north and take the opportunity to bathe in each appealing pool that you stumble upon. In summer it is possible to stay on Los Charcones until 8 o´clock in the evening, although it is important to keep an eye on the lack of light that could cause you difficulty in returning to your car.

What to do before or after:

An ideal tourist route for bathers on the south coast of Lanzarote, close enough to allow you the opportunity to visit Timanfaya. Five minutes’ drive by car from Playa Blanca, enjoy this beach and why not compliment your visit with a good lunch or dinner, a coffee or light refreshment. Why not dine in one of our recommended local restaurants, Casa Brigida or Aromas Yaiza. Or simply enjoy a good coffee in the company of good music in Café del Mar. If you have children another option before or after visiting the beach would be to enjoy a game of bowling.
