This relaxing village enjoys excellent weather. It is protected by “Los Ajaches”, a large extension of dry mountains, from the blustery “alisios” winds, typical of Lanzarote.
This relaxing fishing village is a picture postcard. It faces the atlantic ocean and has spectacular views of the bay, full of little boats, and the island of Fuerteventura. If you wish to relax and enjoy the suns rays by day you will equally enjoy the many stars at night and both will elevate you to a new level of calm and tranquility. There is a pebble beach directly accessed from the apartments  and the sandy beach of “La Arena”, but is some minutes walk away.

Cesar Manrique’s artistic style is best observed in the very spacious swimming pool-lake area. In fact, the management is currently working on a project to renovate these rooms. The resort’s reputation continues to improve, thanks to renovations which have converted adjoining double rooms into 28 master suites. The management does not allow access to those under 16, which makes the swimming pool-lake area even more tranquil. However, paradoxically, given this is a five-star luxury hotel, whether the Casa Canaria opens or not depends on how busy the hotel is at a given time.

The leisure facilities of the Gran Meliá Salinas are in harmony with the tranquil atmosphere of the resort in general. There are three tennis courts just off of Las Cucharas beach, two of which feature functional and fine-looking turf courts, and the other paved in cement, in an inexplicably poor condition. There is also: mini-golf, a multi-use, open-air field and a good sized children’s playing area with the usual activities available. One program that really stands out among the list of activities, in which the guests can learn, for example, is how to make the traditional Canary Island sauce, mojo canario. The Cactus Bar and the various performances it hosts provide dynamic entertainment for adults. Seven houses of volcanic rock in the midst of casting the geographic center of Lanzarote house take up a traditional eighteenth-century architectural building recently restored. Spacious and comfortable, properly equipped to rest the whole family. All the rooms have a double room, lounge and kitchen and two bathrooms. The exterior of the homes are designed for visual use views with a large terrace with armchairs and a wooden bench resolved. From the shelter of the Faro de Pechiguera emerges the lovely Heredad Kamezí estate. 35 beachfront villas that as a whole, transmit serenity, calm, tranquility, and relaxation. Each spacious villa has its own architectural characteristics with the clear influence of Lanzarote’s own celebrated artist Cesar Manrique, directed at maximizing guests’ enjoyment and taking full advantage of natural resources. Gran Meliá Volcán is located on one of the most beautiful strips of beach in the old fishing town of Playa Blanca. Set apart from the bustling tourist avenue, its location next to the historic Castillo del Águila offers an impeccable picture-perfect view of the southern coast of Lanzarote and the neighboring islands of Fuerteventura and Lobos, as well as priceless views of the most lovely swimming cove on the island, Papagayo. The 206 rooms at Gran Meliá Volcán clearly reflect how new the hotel is (it opened in 2002). They are perfectly equipped and simply decorated, and their vivid colors, typical of Lanzarote houses, transmit a traditional appearance. All rooms take advantage of their proximity to the bay with a lovely terrace complete with furniture to sunbathe or take in the beautiful view of the sea. The extreme quiet surrounding the rooms is notable. Some details, such as a good plasma television would be a good addition to the charm of the common rooms.

The accommodations include three junior suites, nine suites and a luxurious royal service, which is made up of 49 rooms, including five junior suites and eight suites, all of which take this hotel to a different level. Decorated with modern touches and with elegant equipment, they offer the guest a private butler service, private breakfast… The royal service includes a magnificent private common area. Its location above ground level visually embraces the attractively wild form of Papagayo, the island of Lobos and the dunes of Corralejo in Fuerteventura. The terrace includes two seductive hydro-therapy bathtubs, an interesting wet bar and a varied range of deck chairs, hammocks and Balinese beds.

Gastronomy and leisure

As a tribute to the cultural assets of Lanzarote, the gastronomical services at the Gran Meliá Volcán include the Tasca Yaiza restaurant, open for lunch, which in addition to an international Spanish menu, offers a variety of dishes from the local range of traditional cuisine. Cheese, the papas arrugadas potato dish, fresh fish from the coast, and the mojo picón garlic sauce are all part of the typical menu for getting to know and enjoying the food of the Canaries.
