Between La Asomada and La Geria, the excursions take you on horseback to strategic viewpoints that reveal the spectacular scenery of the protected nature areas of Lanzarote, and also take you towards the outskirts of the quaint town of Uga. <a href="http://www.lanzaroteacaballo.com/"target=\"_blank\">Lanzarote a caballo organizes horseback riding excursions all around the area surrounding their facilities.

You do not need to have previous experience to enjoy horse riding. For beginners, 1 hour or 1 1/2 hour excursions can be organized (€ 40 and € 50 respectively). If you are an expert, Lanzarote a caballo offers a 2 hour excursion (€ 50). There is also the opportunity of taking a tour in a horse-drawn carriage (€ 10). Without a doubt, this is a very different type of leisure experience. All the activities and prices include a drink in the center’s restaurant-bar.

Lanzarote a caballo can be found on the Arrecife to Yaiza highway km 17 (between the Puerto Calero and Playa Quemada roundabouts). Open: Winter: From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Summer: From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Information and reservations: +34 928 830 038.

Since the mid-90′s, go-karting in Lanzarote has been made possible by two, almost simultaneous, private initiatives in San Bartolomé and Puerto del Carmen. According to its definition in Wikipedia, a go- kart is a single-seater land vehicle without a roof, cockpit or suspension, and with or without bodywork. It is equipped with four non-aligned wheels that maintain contact with the ground. The two front tires control the direction, while the two back tires transmit the motor power to the single-cylinder unit. The karts work by using two pedals: the brake and the accelerator.

The two go-karting centers on the island offer different types of vehicles. They use karts that have a maximum speed of 22 miles an hour [35 km/h], which are most suitable for the younger and novice drivers, as well as vehicles that can go as fast as between 37 and 50 miles an hour [60-80km/h]. A negative aspect of this sport, is how much it costs. Six minutes of racing can cost between € 8 and € 12 depending on the kart you choose. However, there are some offers that can make renting of one of these vehicles more accessible.

Despite the fact that the karts do not exceed a speed of 50 miles per hour [80 km/h], their design, which enables them to stick closely to the tarmac, makes one feel that they are traveling faster than in a normal car. The race tracks, with their numerous curves, provide the opportunity for highly recreational exercise, but also require a high level of concentration. As you progress, you get better at both tracing the route of the curves and judging the speed at which to take them. The strangest aspect that you will come across while driving, even though it is only for six minutes, is the tension in your arms that comes from driving with a small steering wheel. It might be a good idea to do some short stretching exercises before and after you drive around the circuits. Go-karting is generally a safe sport if you pay attention to the few instructions given by the authorized staff at the Lanzarote recreational centers.

Paintball is a sport in which all participants use compressed air guns called “markers” to shoot little balls of paint at other players. In essence, it is a complex game of pursuit, and as the players get hit by balls of paint throughout the game, they are eliminated.

Generally in a game of paintball two teams face each other with the goal of eliminating all the players from the opposite team or by completing an objective (such as capturing a flag or by eliminating a set player). A typical non-professional game of paintball usually lasts between 5 minutes and half an hour. The basic equipment you need to play paintball is not excessively expensive (although the markers and other high-range elements can be). The number of balls shot during a game varies from one game to another: some shoot hundreds, others shoot a few, and some don’t get the chance to shoot at all.

In Lanzarote, the only way to organize a session of this fun game is at the facilities of <a href="http://www.lanzaroteacaballo.com/"target=\"_blank\">Lanzarote a caballo. The games can be played in groups of 8 to 20 members over 16 years old. The rate for residents of the Canary Islands is € 21 (€ 27 for visitors). This price includes a 3-hour game and the first 100 paint balls. Lanzarote a caballo can be found on the Arrecife to Yaiza highway km 17 (between the Puerto Calero and Playa Quemada roundabaouts). Open: Winter: From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Summer: From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Information and reservations: +34 928 830 038.

In Lanzarote, there are two places to play golf, either at the Costa Tequise Golf club or at the Tías golf course. Both have 18 holes and sea views.

Costa Teguise Golf and Lanzarote Golf (Tías) offers beginner and improvement courses and a school for children. For non-beginners, there are different practice options of 9 and/or 18 holes with prices that vary according to the season, between € 41 and € 52, and € 66 and € 68, respectively. LOCATION: Avenida del Golf, no number, Costa Teguise, Lanzarote; Carretera Puerto del Carmen-Tías, no number. OPEN: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. INFORMATION AND RESERVATIONS: +34 928 590 512.

Golf is a precision sport that is played in the open air on natural lawn and normally over 18 different rounds known as holes. Up until not long ago, the only way to play golf in Lanzarote was at Costa Teguise Golf, located in the tourist resort of Costa Teguise. With 18 holes and sea views, the club management offers learning and playing services, such as the option to hire all the required equipment for a session (clubs, balls, golf cart…). As of the beginning of October, the golf course in Tías, also equipped with 18 holes, became another option.

The atmosphere in these clubs is particularly notable because of its tranquility: an essential requirement for playing golf. You can find golfers of all ages, from: children who seem like they cannot handle the club, skillfully developing their drives; youngsters who handle the clubs in such a beautifully natural way; and mostly adults, over 50, who keep physically fit with long walks between holes, and who mainly train with groups of friends.

Golf is an ideal leisure activity that brings together parents and children. This situation has not gone unnoticed by the club management, which offers promotions to facilitate this possibility. Playing the 18 holes at Costa Teguise costs € 55 or € 68, depending on the season, and for under 18′s, there is a 50% discount. The promotion also applies for 9 holes (half the course): € 41 or € 52, depending on the season (low season, from May 1st to September 30th 2008; high season, from October 1st 2007 to April 30th 2008). It is not necessary to buy clubs and golf balls before you decide to give it a try. The club rents a complete set of clubs (€ 25) and a half set (€ 15). In Tías, an 18 or 9-hole game costs € 68 or € 40, respectively. Young golfers can play the whole course for € 40.

Golf lessons

Costa Teguise Golf offers three options for learning golf. LESSONS: A private hour or half-hour class, € 38 or € 23 respectively. One hour with three or five students, € 70. BEGINNERS COURSES: Basic, 4 hours, 3 to 6 students, € 100 per person. Intensive, 9 hours, 3 to 6 students, € 200 per person. ADVANCED COURSES: Advanced, 9 hours, 3 to 6 students, € 250 per person. Intensive improvement classes, 15 hours, 3 to 6 students, € 350 per person. CHILDREN’S SCHOOL (one lesson per week): Basic (for children): 7 1/2 hours, 4 to 6 students, € 60 per child. Intensive for children, 9 hours, 4 to 6 students, € 90 per person. VERY IMPORTANT: The students on the courses will be able to borrow the basic golf equipment without cost, for the duration of their classes.

Lanzarote Golf provides three options to learn golf. LESSONS: A private hour or half hour class, € 40 or € 23 respectively; two persons for one hour, € 50. BEGINNERS COURSES: Basic, 12 hours, 4 to 8 students, € 150 per person. ADVANCED COURSES: Improvement classes, 12 hours, 4 to 8 students, € 150 per person. CHILDREN’S SCHOOL (a 1 1/2 hour class per week for 3 months): Basic (for children): a maximum of 4 students, € 150 per child, including outings to the course on Wednesdays or Fridays.
The main elements of the game are the target (the ten pins that are situated 59-66 feet away [18-20 meters] from the player), the bowling ball, and the lane (a strip of parquet, 82 feet [25 meters] long and almost 3 feet [almost one meter] wide) that separates the player from the target.

Bowling is a recreational activity that requires precision. It is played in a room with a slippery parquet floor. The main elements of the game are the target (ten pins placed 59-66 feet [18-20 meters] away from the player), the bowling ball, and the lane (a strip of parquet 82 feet [25 meters] long and almost 3 feet [almost one meter] wide) that separates the player from the target.

There are different types of competitions, but the most common is ten-pin bowling, found at most bowling alleys, where the goal is to knock down a rack of ten pins. The player has at least a dozen chances to knock down the highest number of pins that he or she can. The winner is the person that knocks down the highest number of pins. In the case of a tie, victory goes to the person who has scored the most strikes during the game (knocking down all 10 pins in one go).

Bowling is a recreational activity that can be enjoyed by all generations. Children as young as seven or eight years old can participate in this entertaining activity. The light weight of the bowling ball (between 7 and 11 pounds [3 and 5 kg]) makes it also suitable for adult and senior players. In the existing facilities in Lanzarote, it is common to see a family, with parents and children, playing a game together.
