Centres Art & Nature

Timanfaya

A 9-mile road is maintained within the National Park for your enjoyment. The path this road follows is perfectly entwined with the local environs, stretching along the main centre of the eruption sites, where there’s a high concentration of important geologic and geomorphologic formations, such as volcanic chimneys, caves and malpaises.

César Manrique

In 1966, Manrique returned to Lanzarote definitively. On the island, which then began its tourism development, promotes a model of intervention in the territory in terms of sustainability which sought to safeguard the natural and cultural heritage island model that was crucial in Lanzarote declaration as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1993.

Jardín de Cactus

The Cactus Garden is a magnificent example of an integrated architectural intervention in the landscape. Cesar Manrique makes this bold architectural complex binomial maintaining unwavering art and nature that permeates all space operations. The choice of this privileged environment, as in so many works of Manrique, conditions both aesthetic solutions adopted as the contents thereof, which have a sense of continuity and integration with the surrounding landscape.

Cueva de los Verdes

Cueva de los Verdes is situated in the northern part of Lanzarote, in the municipality of Haria, part of the vast volcanic landscape of the Malpais Natural Monument of La Corona. The cave was formed as a result of a series of eruptions of the La Corona Volcano (dated, according to geologists, some 3000 to 5000 years ago), which gave way to an extensive (some four miles long) underground volcanic tunnel, which extends from the volcanic crater all the way to the ocean.

Jameos del Agua

The Jameos del Agua are home to the first Centre for Art, Culture and Tourism, created by Cesar Manrique, a site which encourages reflection on one of its creative pillars: Harmony between nature and artistic creativity. Due to a certain level of abandonment, in the early 1970′s this site had to undergo extensive cleaning and reconditioning. Although the works on display have been expanded over the years, the first phases of this project were opened to the public in 1966.

Mirador del Río (Yé)

El Mirador del Río is located on top of Risco de Famara, at 475 meters, in the north of the island. From there you can see one of the most spectacular views of Lanzarote. This is one of the most representative architectural creations of Cesar Manrique, where the artist combine artistic and architectural details, in order to achieve an enthusiastic project of integrating art and nature.
