The Romería de Los Dolores 2025 will once again bring together thousands of pilgrims in Tinajo on September 15, in honor of the Virgen de los Dolores, patron saint of Lanzarote. This deeply rooted tradition blends religiosity, folklore, and community spirit, making it one of the island’s most important cultural events.
When and where does it take place?
The pilgrimage will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, with groups of pilgrims starting their journeys from different parts of the island during the preceding weekend. The main route culminates in Mancha Blanca, Tinajo, where the sanctuary of the Virgen de los Dolores is located.
History and tradition
Devotion to the Virgen de los Dolores dates back to the 18th century, when the people of Tinajo invoked her protection during the volcanic eruptions of Timanfaya. Since then, every September pilgrims walk in gratitude and offering, wearing traditional costumes, playing folk music, and bringing local products as tokens of thanks.
