La Geria vineyards, with vines planted in pits protected by volcanic stone “zocos”.
La Geria Traditional Harvest 2025 returns this August with a blend of heritage, folklore, and Lanzarote’s passion for wine. Over two days, locals and visitors can enjoy unique activities in this protected landscape, with the island’s emblematic wineries as the main stage.
When and where
The celebration will take place on 14–15 August 2025 at Bodega La Geria and the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de La Caridad, in the heart of Lanzarote’s most famous wine-growing area. The event is part of the festivities honoring the Virgen de La Caridad, the local patron.
History and tradition
La Geria is known for its unique vine cultivation system: vines are planted in pits dug into volcanic ash and protected by zocos, semicircular stone walls. This traditional method harnesses moisture from the trade winds and shelters the plants from strong winds, producing wines of exceptional character. The traditional harvest recreates the historic process of grape gathering and transport to the wineries as it was done centuries ago.
The chapel presiding over the festival, dating back to 1706, is one of the oldest temples in the area and a symbol of rural devotion in the municipality of Yaiza.
