THE SCENE:
Enjoy a few pints at Charlie’s while the sounds of rock n’ roll classics reverbs in your glass. All the rock greats have their turn under the spotlight during the long jam sessions that take place every night of the week at this favorite live-music spot in Lanzarote. You’ll hear music from The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Doors, Joplin, Hendrix, Simon and Garfunkel, Dylan, Guns n’ Roses, U2, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, The Police and many of our other all-time favorites.
This spacious venue has all the fixings of a club from the Midwestern US, with long wooden benches and round tables that seat large groups of tourists. This spot just screams country. Performers jam in different spots around the bar. Hundreds of portraits of rock n’ roll greats like John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Morrison, Bono and The Edge, Marley, Dylan, Jagger, and Hendrix seem to look down approvingly on the recreation of their musical contributions.
Just like any good rock and roll venue, beer is the fundamental ingredient of the evening, and there’s a large selection, including Guinness; pints go for € 2 or € 3 each, and mixed drinks are € 4 or € 5 each. It’s a spot for tourists; you’ll feel like you’re on a trip within a trip, all without ever leaving Puerto del Carmen.
The band’s set typically lasts about three hours. All the classic elements of rock n’ roll are on display: acoustic guitar, electric guitar solos, bass and drums. There’s more than enough time to enjoy and sing along to songs like Can’t Buy me Love by The Beatles, Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones, Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns n’ Roses as well as more solemn hits, like With or without you by U2 or a 60’s favorite like the Eagles’ Hotel California. Whether for the band’s performance, or the effects of a third round of beer, one things is for sure, the music continues all night long at Charlie’s with audience requests like “No woman no cry”, “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Doors”, “Obladi, Oblada”, and so on.
What to do before and after: In the same shopping centre where Charlie’s is located there are plenty of bars and clubs. Just a few steps away you’ll find Café del Carmen. It’s always a good idea to have a good meal before a night of drinking. OíBotafumeiro or Bodega are two great options.
