Mesón La Jordana in Costa Teguise is one of the Lanzarote’s classic restaurants and offers a wide variety of meat and fish. The fresh fish from the Lanzarote coast and the restaurant’s quality cuts of meat are the main attraction for this restaurant. The décor is like that of many restaurants on the island, functional yet uninspired. The available wines are displayed on wooden racks throughout the main dining rooms, adding a nice touch.
Among the appetizers offered, the fresh shellfish stands out above all the rest. There are steamed mussels, oysters, clams and snails, all perfectly prepared. Other tasty choices are the toasted bread slices, tostas, with shrimp and crab and the asparagus with smoked salmon, both of which are served with an attractive and delicious final touch.
As far as fish is concerned, La Jordana prepares both sole and grouper wonderfully, occasionally adding other local seasonal catches to the menu. The menu does lack a truly satisfying cut of meat like a nice beef filet, but the menu offers some variety with its veal cutlet, sirloin steak, broiled duck, lamb, and pork.
The wine list is average and rather pricey, but the pastries are exquisite, making use of several kinds of fruits. They have bananas prepared a la Flambé, lime and papaya sorbets, Spanish crème brulée, and cream puffs with ice cream and chocolate. The service is outstanding and quick; there is always just the right amount of time for a cigarette and a chat before the entrees are served.
What to do before and after: La Jordana is located in the heart of a dynamic tourist hotspot, very close to all the night life, jazz clubs and other recreational attractions.
