Due to its 10 metre diameter this water cave, in Spanish Cueva del Augua, is considered one of the largest natural pools in Lanzarote.

Also known as La Olla, its isolated location between LosCocoteros and Charco del Palo (Northeast of the island) explains its lonely and somewhat recluse state.

It has a rustic setting and is surrounded by weeds, natural stonesand sparse vegetation that inhabit this part of Lanzarote.

The crisp sea of Los Cocoteros and the particular morphology of la Cueva del Agua encourage the constant renewal of the seas water.

The outcome is a magnificent natural swimming pool.

Surrounding the sea there are several resting areas where you can lay your towel and stretch out to read a book, here you are completely sheltered from the prevailing winds from the northeast coast of the island.

A heavy silence surrounds la Cueva del Agua which is softly broken by the calm waters of the neighboring coast entering into the cave.

It is a constant pleasant whisper that invites you to take a dive into the pool.

Its interior is filled with rough stones, sea grass and some sea urchins, so it is recommended that you enter the water wearing some form of footwear.

When the tide is high there is enough depth for you to jump into the water directly from a height of one or two metres.

You must take a left hand turn onto a dirt track from the highway that connects Guatiza to LosCocoteros. From there you must move towards the north(left) and about 300 meters turn towards the east (right).You will reach a lonely house approximately 500 metresfrom the urban boundaries of the residential area of LosCocoteros.

Within this area it is possible to park. On the outer western border of the house (not the costal side), you will see a very narrow path that will lead you having walked approximately 100 metres to the top of the natural pool.

Once we are here we must use precautions when descending into the cave.

This is due to the ground being uneven and slippery possibly causing you to slip.

If you can overcome this obstacle you can enjoy the cave and its natural pool however many people find this very difficult therefore the pool is used very little.

What to do before or after

Very close to the Cueva del Agua there is the small beach in Guatiza, as well as the famous nudist village Charco del Palo, offering a wide choice of bathing areas on this coastline.

You also have the options to bathe on one of the many small beaches that you will find on the northern coastline and a must is a visit to Jameos del Agua.
