Lanzarote Beach Safety: New Campaign in Five Languages
Thirty videos, posters in five languages, and one message repeated by the island’s own firefighters: caution saves more lives than any rescue. The Safety and Emergencies Consortium of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has launched a new campaign to strengthen Lanzarote beach safety along the entire coastline, aimed at residents and visitors alike.

The initiative, produced by the ADACIS association as part of the “El mar nos une, dale vida” (The Sea Unites Us, Give It Life) program and funded by the Cabildo through the Canary Islands Development Fund, consists of 30 video spots subtitled in Spanish, English, German, French, and Italian — six per language. The language choice is no accident: it mirrors the main nationalities visiting the island year-round.
What the videos teach
The spots recreate the situations that cause the most scares every summer: beaches with warning flags and lifeguard service, rocky stretches of coast without flags, pools with young children, and motorboats operating near swimmers. Several scenes focus on a danger many parents underestimate — inflatable floats that the wind can carry away from shore in a matter of minutes.
“The most valuable and reliable way to prevent accidents is the caution of the people who come to the coast,” said Consortium president Francisco J. Aparicio, who noted that Lanzarote’s firefighters took part in the filming along the island’s shoreline.
The videos are available on the ADACIS website, and the Spanish-language spots are also airing on local television starting this August. The posters, also in five languages, will be distributed in sports, cultural, educational, and tourist centers across Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
