Fiestas de Uga 2026: San Isidro, romería and Livestock Fair

The Fiestas de Uga 2026 fill the streets of this small village in the municipality of Yaiza once more with celebrations honoring San Isidro Labrador, patron saint of farmers. Every May, Uga — a village of barely 800 residents known for its camel herds and goat cheese — becomes the festive heart of southern Lanzarote with a traditional romería, folk music, verbenas and the Island Livestock Fair. This year, the fair reaches its 17th edition.

The romería: Saturday, May 9

The standout moment of the Fiestas de Uga was the traditional romería on Saturday, May 9. At 6:30 pm, following a mass at the church of San Isidro, the procession departed from the intersection of Calle Los Jameos and Calle Los Arenales. Romeros and romeras in traditional Canarian dress, saddled camels, folk groups playing timple and guitar and offerings to the saint wound through the village streets to the fairground. There, the Mago and Maga were crowned — both children’s and adult categories — followed by a Noche de Parrandas with Sondemar, Malpeis, Gurfines Son del Puerto and Pal’ Porrón.

It is one of the few romerías in the Canary Islands where camels — historically raised in Uga for agricultural work — take center stage. For a visitor who has never witnessed a Canarian romería, Uga is one of the best places to start: approachable, authentic and with a family atmosphere.

Fiesta de los Colores: Sunday, May 10

On Sunday the 10th at 12:30 pm, Uga held its Fiesta de los Colores with performances by Defecto Venturi, DeLorean and Los Lolas. Color powder packets were sold for €2 — one of the most popular events among the municipality’s younger crowd.

Día Grande: Friday, May 15

The Día Grande of San Isidro Labrador was celebrated on Friday, May 15 with a solemn mass at 7:00 pm at the church of San Isidro, followed by a procession accompanied by the Yaiza Municipal Band. At 9:00 pm, Spanish singer-songwriter Gonzalo Hermida performed the main concert of the fiestas, followed by a verbena with Vocal Force, the Mambo Latino orchestra and DJ Pereda.

Full program: 12 days of fiestas

The fiestas kicked off on Tuesday, May 5 with the mixed wooden bola championship and ran for twelve days with envite, ronda and chinchón tournaments, children’s workshops, comedy play-backs by the municipality’s seniors, sporting demonstrations by the Club Ayatima and family activities at the fairground. Saturday the 16th closed the patron saint fiestas with a family Guanchymkana and a popular enyesque with Dúo Tropical and Nueva Stela.
