FIMC Lanzarote 2026: Yuja Wang and nine concerts on the island

The 42nd Canary Islands International Music Festival brings nine classical music concerts to Lanzarote and La Graciosa between January 10 and February 6, 2026. The highlight: pianist Yuja Wang with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in the unique setting of Jameos del Agua.

The 42nd edition of the festival features nine performances across four venues on the island, from the intimate Cultural Center on La Graciosa to the spectacular natural auditorium of Jameos del Agua.

Friday, January 10 – La Graciosa

Ensemble Nexus: “Ángel de Arena” (premiere)
Centro Cultural Inocencia Páez, Caleta del Sebo – 8:00 pm
A work by Canarian composer Cecilia Díaz-Pestano inspired by a child discovering the sea for the first time. Includes Mendelssohn’s String Octet.

Saturday, January 11 – Tías

Ensemble Nexus: “Ángel de Arena”
Teatro Municipal de Tías – 7:00 pm
Second performance of the world premiere of this work commissioned by FIMC.

Monday, January 13 – Arrecife

Guiguan Project with Markus Stockhausen (En Paralelo)
Teatro Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero” – 8:00 pm
A meeting between three Canarian musicians (Javier Infante, Alexis Lemes and Javier Colina) and German trumpeter Markus Stockhausen, a leading figure in European avant-garde jazz.

Wednesday, January 15 – Jameos del Agua

Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra
Jameos del Agua Auditorium – 8:00 pm
Conductor: Karel Mark Chichon. All-Mozart program: overture to “La finta giardiniera”, Sinfonia Concertante, and Symphony No. 29. Soloists: Sergio Marrero (violin) and Adriana Ilieva (viola).

Sunday, January 19 – Jameos del Agua

Mahler Chamber Orchestra with Yuja Wang
Jameos del Agua Auditorium – 8:00 pm
The star concert of the edition. Yuja Wang, considered the world’s most acclaimed pianist, returns to FIMC fifteen years after her first visit. Program: Ligeti Piano Concerto and Chopin Concerto No. 1 (Wang as soloist and conductor).

Tuesday, January 20 – Jameos del Agua

Pieles: “ARAHAL” (En Paralelo)
Jameos del Agua Auditorium – 8:00 pm
Premiere of the new show by Canarian company Pieles. An interdisciplinary work fusing percussion, voice, stone, and seed in an ancestral chant connecting the Canary Islands, North Africa, and Sephardic heritage.

Thursday, January 23 – Teguise

Gabriel Ducatenzeiler, piano
Convento de Santo Domingo – 8:00 pm
The young Canarian pianist, trained in Gran Canaria and Germany, performs a journey from Bach to the present day (Laura Vega), via Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninov.

Thursday, January 30 – Arrecife

Il Giardino d’Amore
Teatro Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero” – 8:00 pm
Polish ensemble led by violinist Stefan Plewniak. Program of German, Italian, and French baroque: Vivaldi, Bach, Tartini, Purcell, and more.

Thursday, February 6 – Arrecife

Raquel Lojendio and Chiky Martín: “Cantos de dos mundos”
Teatro Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero” – 8:00 pm
The Canarian soprano and Madrid-based pianist close the festival in Lanzarote with a musical journey across both shores of the Atlantic.

Festival venues in Lanzarote

FIMC 2026 uses four performance spaces combining exceptional acoustics and unique architecture:

  • Jameos del Agua Auditorium: The most spectacular venue, set inside a volcanic tube designed by César Manrique. Hosts the three subscription concerts (OFGC, Mahler, and Pieles).
  • Teatro El Salinero (Arrecife): The capital’s main theater, with three concerts scheduled.
  • Convento de Santo Domingo (Teguise): A 16th-century historic space, hosting the piano recital.
  • Teatro Municipal de Tías: Hosts the premiere of “Ángel de Arena” on the main island.
  • Centro Cultural Inocencia Páez (La Graciosa): First concert of the festival on the eighth island.

Tickets and subscriptions

Individual tickets cost between €15 and €30 depending on concert and seating. The Lanzarote Subscription includes the three concerts at Jameos del Agua (Gran Canaria Philharmonic, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and Pieles) at a reduced price.
