Veintinueve Trece 2026: photography in Arrecife, November 9–14
Veintinueve Trece 2026, the 11th edition of Lanzarote’s photography and visual arts gathering, takes place in Arrecife from Monday, November 9 to Saturday, November 14. This year it revolves around one idea: stopping. There are talks by Alessandra Sanguinetti, Silvana Trevale, Anna Surinyach and Rafael Arocha, a 35 mm screening, workshops and a street photography party. The opening and the film are free with registration, and the talks cost €20.

Veintinueve Trece 2026 program
Monday the 9th, 7 pm. Opening at CIC El Almacén, with the Veintinueve Trece Award for a career in the visual arts of the Canary Islands. It is followed by Proceso Cruzado: sociologist Raquel Martínez Buján, from the University of A Coruña, talks about care, work and time of one’s own in ¿Quién puede parar? (Who can afford to stop?). Free, with registration.
Tuesday the 10th, 7 pm. The 35 mm series at the Cine Buñuel in El Almacén: Unrest (Disturbios, Cyril Schäublin, 2022), set in the 19th-century Swiss watchmaking industry, followed by a debate with anthropologist Manuel Delgado. It is organized with Tenique Cultural, the collective behind the Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote film festival. Free, with a reservation.

Friday the 13th. Rafael Arocha, photographer and coordinator of the MARGULLO Books publishing project, at 6 pm, and Alessandra Sanguinetti at 7 pm.
Saturday the 14th. From 10 am to 8 pm, the Photography Party in the square outside El Almacén. At 2 pm, Enyesque, a shared lunch for speakers and audience at the Sociedad La Democracia (€15, sign up by Thursday the 13th at 4 pm). At 6 pm, a talk by Carretera Vieja, a collective of six photographers working on rural life in the Canary Islands, and at 7 pm, Miradas colectivas and the closing.
Alessandra Sanguinetti and the other guests
Sanguinetti is an Argentine-American photographer and a member of Magnum Photos. In 2026 she premiered her first feature documentary, The Illusion of an Everlasting Summer, filmed over twenty-five years with Guille and Belinda, the subjects of one of her best-known series, and awarded at the Locarno Film Festival. Jim Goldberg, author of Rich and Poor and winner of the Henri Cartier-Bresson Award, teaches the main workshop with her. Anna Surinyach, co-founder of Revista 5W, covers armed conflict and migration.
Workshops
The workshops run from Thursday the 12th to Saturday the 14th, 9 am to 1 pm, at the Centro Cívico in Arrecife: one with Alessandra Sanguinetti and Jim Goldberg, and a color grading workshop with David Castañón (€70). Workshop registration includes the talks, and unemployed people, students and pensioners get a 50% discount. Photographs from Lento, the large-format workshop Daniel Fleitas taught from October 29 to November 1, will be part of a group exhibition at El Almacén.
Tickets and registration
Everything is booked on the Veintinueve Trece website. The talks ticket costs €20 and covers both evenings, Thursday and Friday, with room for about a hundred people. The opening and the film are free but require registration, and the Photography Party is out in the street. A sign language interpreter is available free on request when you register, and all venues are accessible.
More to do in Lanzarote
El Almacén, the festival’s home, is the cultural center César Manrique championed in Arrecife in the 1970s, and in October it hosted part of Palabras al Vuelo 2026. The capital has more cultural dates through the year, such as the traveling festival Arrecife en Vivo and the San Ginés fiestas in August. The Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote film festival arrives at the end of November.
