Archipiélago Chinijo Natural Park: management plan opens for public comment
The draft of the plan that will govern the Archipiélago Chinijo Natural Park, which takes in La Graciosa, Alegranza, Caleta de Famara and the surrounding sea, is now open to the public. On Wednesday, October 28, the Cabildo de Lanzarote opened a two-month period for residents, groups and public bodies to review it and send in comments.

What the plan is and what it changes
The document is the first draft of the park’s management plan (Plan Rector de Uso y Gestión), the rulebook for what can be done, and where, inside the protected area. It splits the park into four zones: Caleta de Famara, La Graciosa, Alegranza and the marine area. At sea, it separates areas for commercial and traditional fishing and regulates where boats can anchor. Of the options studied, the Cabildo has chosen the one called Alternative 3.
How to take part
The two-month period runs from the publication of the notice in the Boletín Oficial de Canarias, the regional official gazette. The documents, including the strategic environmental study, are available on the Cabildo’s online portal or in person, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 1 pm, at its land-planning department. Comments can be filed online or in person, in Spanish. The Cabildo and the Teguise town council will also hold meetings with residents and groups in Caleta de Famara and Caleta de Sebo.
What comes next
After this stage, the plan moves on toward initial approval, with another round of public consultation before final approval. During the consultation, the reports required by law from other public bodies will also be requested.
