Arrecife celebrates its patron saint on August 25, and in 2026 that date falls on a Tuesday. Built around it is the longest program of the summer in the capital: close to two weeks of free concerts, boat races, tournaments, food stalls and religious ceremonies that turn the waterfront into the center of the island. The Ayuntamiento de Arrecife has not yet presented this year’s poster and schedule. Here is what is already certain, and what recent years let us anticipate.

What is confirmed

Día grande: Tuesday, August 25, 2026. This is a fixed date tied to the patron saint’s feast and it does not move from year to year. The day brings the main mass and the procession of San Ginés through the old town, the central act of the fiestas.

The rest of the program fills the two weeks before it. The opening is marked by the pregón, the ceremonial opening speech, which in recent editions has landed between August 9 and 14 depending on the year. Every indication is that 2026 follows the same pattern.

What to expect from the program

The lineup changes annually, but the structure of the Sangineles is remarkably stable. If you are planning around it, count on the following:

Free concerts on Reducto beach. This is where the big names play. Recent editions have brought major national and international artists, with the strongest night usually reserved for August 25 or the weekend before it. In 2026, the Saturdays to watch are August 15 and 22.
Vela latina and jolateros at the Charco de San Ginés. Traditional lateen-sail racing and the children’s tin-boat races are the traditional heart of the fiesta.
The open-water swim across the bay, with decades of history behind it.
Sporting tournaments: Canarian wrestling at Reducto, the long-running San Ginés football tournament, chess, dominoes and handball.
Folk festivals and the offering to the patron saint with groups from across the island.
Ventorrillos and the food zone along the waterfront, where a good share of the real fiesta happens.
Children’s programming concentrated at La Recova and Parque Islas Canarias: outdoor cinema, games, workshops.

When the full program is published

The Ayuntamiento de Arrecife presents the poster and schedule at a public event, usually in the first days of August. In 2024 the presentation came on August 7 for fiestas starting on the 9th; in 2025 it was announced early in the month for a start on the 14th. The window between announcement and opening night tends to be short.

Getting there and getting around

Everything happens within walking distance. The Charco de San Ginés, Reducto beach, Parque Islas Canarias and La Recova sit within a few minutes of each other in central Arrecife. On big concert nights the center fills up and parking gets difficult: if you are coming from outside the capital, arrive early or take the bus. Access routes and road closures are announced with the program.

If you want to understand the fiesta, not just attend it

The Sangineles are not a generic summer festival: they hold a National Tourist Interest designation, and their origin traces back to a chapel built in 1574, when Arrecife was still just an anchorage. The patron saint, for that matter, is a seventh-century French bishop.
