Fiestas de San Ginés 2026: The Full Program in Arrecife

Arrecife has its program. The Fiestas de San Ginés 2026 run August 14 to 25: twelve days opening with local fighter Hécher Sosa giving the pregón, concerts by Pablo Alborán and David Bisbal at the Recinto Ferial, and the return of the maritime traditions that give the fiesta its meaning. Here is what is on.

Friday the 14th: the opening address

The fiestas begin on Friday, August 14 at 8:30 pm in Parque José Ramírez Cerdá, with the pregón delivered by Hécher Sosa, the Arrecife-born mixed martial arts fighter known as “Guanche Warrior.” It is followed by the presentation of the third International Performing Arts Festival “El Mundo en Lanzarote.”

That same night at 9:00 pm, the 33rd San Ginés Rock Festival takes over Parque Islas Canarias with Rat-Zinger, Underground Kombustible, Galiot, Drúpe and Jayra. And on Avenida Vargas, the traditional ventorrillos open with the Noche de Parrandas: Son del Norte, Los Labradores and Tinasoria, running until 2:30 am.

The Recinto Ferial concerts

The structural change in 2026: the major concerts move to the Recinto Ferial esplanade, the site opened in June by the Lava Live Festival. It is the first time Arrecife’s patron saint fiestas have had infrastructure on this scale.

Saturday, August 15 — Pablo Alborán. The Málaga singer-songwriter opens the first weekend of the fiestas.
Friday, August 21 — La Guardia. The Granada band runs through the hits of Spanish eighties rock.
Tuesday, August 25 — David Bisbal. The Almería singer closes things out on the patron saint’s day, a public holiday in Arrecife.

The traditions

Mayor Yonathan de León and fiestas councillor Echedey Eugenio have framed this edition around reclaiming spaces and customs: tradition and modernity sharing the same program.

Back again are the elements that separate the Sangineles from any other summer festival: vela latina lateen-sail racing and the jolatero tin-boat competitions at the Charco de San Ginés, Canarian wrestling, bola canaria, the folk festivals and the offering to the patron saint. The sporting calendar is broad — football, handball, 3×3 basketball, rugby, petanque, sailing, swimming and kayaking among other disciplines.

The program also takes in water activities, outdoor cinema, children’s and gaming zones, events for older residents, traditional games and an inclusive day at the fairground site.

Where it all happens

Programming spreads across Parque José Ramírez Cerdá, Avenida de Vargas (the ventorrillos), Playa del Reducto, the Recova Municipal, the Recinto Ferial esplanade, Plaza de Las Palmas and the Charco de San Ginés, plus sports facilities around the city.

All of it sits within walking distance in central Arrecife. On big concert nights the center fills and parking gets difficult: if you are coming from outside the capital, arrive early or take the bus.

Bárbara Müller’s poster

One of the more distinctive touches this year is on paper. Architect, artist and urban illustrator Bárbara Müller created the official poster and the watercolors running through the program’s pages. The cover puts the church of San Ginés and its surroundings at the center, with figures walking toward the celebration; inside, the illustrations move through corners and heritage details of the city.

Tuesday the 25th: the día grande

August 25, the feast of San Ginés de Clermont and a public holiday in Arrecife, brings the main mass and the procession of the patron saint through the old town. It is the central act of the fiestas and the reason for everything else. That night, Bisbal’s concert closes the twelve days.

Last-minute times can change. It is worth confirming through the Ayuntamiento de Arrecife’s official channels.

If you want to understand the fiesta, not just attend it

The Sangineles hold a National Tourist Interest designation, and their origin traces back to a chapel built in 1574, when Arrecife was still just an anchorage. The patron saint, for that matter, is a seventh-century French bishop.
