Mancha Blanca closed the Los Dolores 2026 fiestas on Tuesday, September 15, with a concert by Malú, after a week in which thousands of pilgrims walked to the chapel of Lanzarote’s patron saint and the 37th Feria Insular de Artesanía, the island craft fair, drew 77,500 visitors. Heat shaped the final day: a maximum high-temperature alert moved the solemn morning Mass to the evening.

Folk music from all eight islands, Friday the 11th

The 36th Nanino Díaz Cutillas Festival brought groups and soloists from all eight islands to the chapel: Guanapay for Lanzarote, Arón Morales for La Gomera, Aduares for La Palma, Dúo Guardilama with María Félix for La Graciosa, La Oliva for Fuerteventura, Chago Melián for Tenerife, Sabinosa for El Hierro and Los Cebolleros for Gran Canaria. Benito Cabrera was artistic director, and Televisión Canaria recorded the festival to broadcast across the islands.

The Los Dolores 2026 pilgrimage, Saturday the 12th

The pilgrimage set off at 4:30 pm from the Tinajo soccer field. Thousands of people from across the island and La Graciosa walked to Mancha Blanca in traditional dress, with carts and folk bands, and left flowers and local produce as offerings to the Virgen de los Dolores, the Virgin of the Volcanoes, whose devotion is tied to the story of her intercession against the lava flows of 1736. More than 200 people staffed the day’s safety operation.

At night, the Baile del Romero, the pilgrims’ dance, brought Pal Porrón, Tinasoria, Son del Norte and, from Gran Canaria, La Polvajera and Pa’Lante to the esplanade.

The main day, under a heat alert

On Tuesday the 15th, the feast of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores and a holiday across the island, Lanzarote was under a maximum high-temperature alert from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, with forecasts of up to 37 °C (99 °F) inland. The Cabildo and the Diocese of the Canary Islands moved the solemn Mass from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, and the craft fair opened only from 6:00 to 10:00 pm on its last day. At night, Malú closed the music program with her Quince Tour, a look back across her career.

The craft fair in numbers

The 37th Feria Insular de Artesanía, from September 10 to 15, counted 77,500 visitors over six days and brought together 140 artisans. The sombrera, the traditional straw hat, was the focus of this year’s showcase, and Uruguay was the guest country. The fair presented the second Premios Artesanía Lanzarote craft awards, and the Cabildo’s publications stand sold more than 200 books; the most requested was La tunera y sus productos. During the fiestas, nearly a thousand older residents of Lanzarote and La Graciosa also spent a day together in Mancha Blanca.
