The Lanzarote Craft Fair reaches its 37th edition with a very specific tribute: the traditional hats woven from plant fibers in Lanzarote and La Graciosa. The fair runs September 10-15 in Mancha Blanca, Tinajo, coinciding with the festivities honoring Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, and brings together more than 140 participants including artisans, associations, and international guests.

Interest keeps growing: the Cabildo received 192 applications, of which 108 were admitted and 59 remain on a waiting list. There will be artisans from every island in the archipelago, one representative from each of Lanzarote’s seven municipalities, and around eight professionals running training workshops and live demonstrations across the six days of the fair.

Uruguay, guest country of the Lanzarote Craft Fair

This edition’s international dimension comes from Uruguay. Six artisans from the South American country will present their techniques and products in Mancha Blanca — an exchange that, in the words of Culture councilor Jesús Machín, will “open a dialogue between different craft traditions” at a fair that turns the village into a cultural meeting point every September.

Heritage in the hands

The program also brings back “La Herencia en las manos” (Heritage in the Hands), the space created in 2024 for the island’s veteran artisans. Around ten master craftspeople will give live demonstrations of traditional trades and share techniques learned over decades. “They hold knowledge that is fundamental to understanding Lanzarote’s craftsmanship,” said Crafts councilor Aroa Revelo.

For anyone visiting the island in September, the fair is one of the best chances of the year to see Canarian craftsmanship up close, buy directly from the people who make it, and soak up the atmosphere of the Los Dolores festivities in Mancha Blanca.
