Lanzarote International Marathon 2025: complete guide

The Lanzarote International Marathon 2025 once again turns the island into a paradise for runners. Around the first weekend of December, Costa Teguise hosts a full running festival with distances for every level, a 100% coastal route and an international atmosphere right at the start of winter.
Update pending: The organiser has not yet published all final 2025 times and detailed schedules for each distance. We’ll update this guide as soon as the official programme is released.
When and where the Lanzarote International Marathon 2025 takes place
Based on the information available so far, the event is expected to look like this:
- Festival dates: the marathon weekend is expected to run from Thursday 4 to Saturday 6 December 2025 (expo, bib collection and races).
- Main race day: Saturday 6 December 2025.
- Main location: seafront avenue in Costa Teguise, with the start and finish line next to the promenade.
- Planned distances: marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km), 10 km, 5 km Santa Race and kids’ races.
- Type of course: coastal route along seafront promenades and avenues, mostly flat and very close to the ocean.
The exact start times for each distance will be announced in the official 2025 programme. In previous editions, the races have been staggered throughout the morning so that runners and spectators are spread along the course.
Programme and key activities over the weekend
Expo and bib collection
- Thursday & Friday: runners’ expo in Costa Teguise with bib collection, sports brand stands and tourist information points.
- Tip: pick up your bib the day before your race to avoid queues and to check any last-minute changes in times or course details.
Race day: Saturday 6 December 2025
- Marathon 42 km: early start from Costa Teguise, with an out-and-back route along the east coast of Lanzarote.
- Half marathon 21 km: slightly later start, sharing most of the coastal course.
- 10 km: ideal distance for regular runners looking for a realistic challenge with a big-race atmosphere.
- 5 km Santa Race: short, festive run where many participants dress up in Christmas-themed costumes.
- Kids’ races: age-graded distances with start and finish on the same seafront avenue in Costa Teguise.
The organiser usually provides bag drop service, frequent aid stations, entertainment at several points on the route and a lively finish area with music, food and prize giving.
Practical tips for running the Lanzarote International Marathon 2025
- Registration: entries are managed through the official Lanzarote International Marathon website. Book early to secure your place and benefit from the lowest price tiers.
- Weather: December temperatures are generally mild (18–22 °C), but sun and wind can make it feel tougher. Protect your skin and adjust your pace if there is calima or strong gusts.
- Flat but exposed course: most of the race runs right next to the sea with very few hills but long, straight sections. It’s great for a personal best if the wind behaves.
- Staying in Costa Teguise: the easiest option is to stay within walking distance of the start and finish area. Many hotels offer early breakfast and late check-out for runners.
- Travelling with family or friends: marathon weekend is perfect to combine holidays and sport. There are several spots along the promenade where it’s easy to cheer the same runner multiple times.
- Training beforehand: if you’re travelling from abroad, plan long runs on flat terrain and, if possible, in windy conditions. Once the official programme is published, we’ll add more specific tips based on final course and timetable.
