Lanzarote Cultural Agenda April 2026: Holy Week, Triathlon and Wine

The Lanzarote Cultural Agenda April 2026 opens with Holy Week and doesn’t stop until the last weekend of the month. The Cabildo’s programming strings together a literary festival, a contemporary dance showcase celebrating its tenth edition, early music in a 16th-century convent, a triathlon with 42 years of history and Sonidos Líquidos’ Belingueos — all while La Geria’s vines push out their first green shoots and the Famara cliffs glow under a light that is no longer winter’s.
Holy Week: March 29 to April 5
The first week of April is defined by Holy Week. Holy Thursday (April 2) is a regional holiday in the Canary Islands and Good Friday (April 3) is a national holiday throughout Spain. The most significant processions take place in Arrecife — the Procession of the Encounter on Holy Wednesday and the Holy Burial on Good Friday — and in Teguise, where the Cristo de la Vera Cruz, the island’s most venerated sculpture, winds through the cobblestoned streets of the Villa in a Vía Crucis that marks the year’s most solemn day. Yaiza, Haría, San Bartolomé, Tinajo and Tías complete a map of celebrations that spans the entire island.

Letras Aisladas: Canarian literary festival
From April 6 to 10, the CIC El Almacén in Arrecife hosts a new edition of Letras Aisladas, the literary gathering coordinated by Mare Cabrera that shines a spotlight on writing from the Canary Islands. The program brings together authors including Jesús Giráldez, Daniel María, Elena Correa and Gonzalo Ortega in a space of book presentations, round tables and creative workshops. Highlights include a literary collage workshop by Guacimara Hernández and a writing workshop by Lana Corujo. Free entry until full.
Escena Lanzarote: “La Desnudez” at Jameos del Agua
On Friday, April 11 at 8:30 pm, the Jameos del Agua Auditorium hosts “La Desnudez” (The Nakedness), by choreographer Daniel Abreu, a contemporary dance piece exploring vulnerability and human connection. Performing inside the volcanic tube designed by César Manrique adds a dimension that no conventional theater can offer. Tickets at cactlanzarote.com.
Suelo y Aire: tenth edition of the dance showcase
From April 13 to 18, the contemporary dance showcase Suelo y Aire celebrates its tenth edition, turning various island venues into stages for creation, training and experimentation. The program features choreographers and companies including Celeste Ayus, Paula Quintana, Ian Garside and Tomás Pozzi, with pieces exploring new languages of dance and physical theater.
The live installation MóVéRé, by Lanzarote-born creator Javier Ferrer, can already be experienced at the CIC El Almacén Monday to Friday (2:00-5:00 pm through April 26): a stage laboratory where the audience guides the action in real time. The festival also includes documentary screenings — “Danza y Arquitectura” by Derek Pedrós and “Raíces” by Celia Medina — and a movement workshop by Emiliana Battista at the Teatro El Salinero.
The stage performances concentrate on April 24, 25 and 26 at the Teatro El Salinero (tickets: €10, €6 for “Road to Hip Hop”). The closing piece on Saturday the 26th is “Road to Hip Hop,” an urban dance production by Iván Marrero and Pedro Sohu. Tickets at culturalanzarote.com.
Early Music Festival of Lanzarote
On April 17 and 18, the Convento de Santo Domingo in Teguise — a 16th-century space with exceptional acoustics — hosts a new edition of the Early Music Festival of Lanzarote. The program includes the concert “Amoroso pensamiento” and the guitar recital “Ensueño.” This is one of those events that justifies the trip for the venue alone: Renaissance and Baroque music within the walls of a historic convent in the island’s former capital.
Canarian folklore in Yaiza
On April 18, the municipality of Yaiza hosts an evening of Canarian folklore with performances by Grupo Esencia Atlante and Parranda Pa’l Porrón. A chance to hear traditional island music in one of Lanzarote’s most beautiful villages.
Art and exhibitions
April keeps two major exhibitions active in the Cabildo’s cultural spaces. “La profundidad de silencio” (The Depth of Silence), inaugurated on March 28, runs through August 1, 2026 at the CIC El Almacén. In parallel, “Vacío” (Void) by Carlos de Saá continues at the same venue through June 6. Two contemporary art proposals that dialogue with the island’s volcanic landscape.
Literary talks and conferences
On April 21 and 22, the CIC El Almacén hosts a series of events exploring literature and contemporary thought. A round table with Lana Corujo, Juli Mesa and Fabio Carreriro examines the evolution of literary value, while Sonia Betancort’s lecture offers a critical look at beauty and 21st-century cultural transformation. Free entry.
Cinema
The month’s film programming combines auteur cinema, animation and documentary. Within the Suelo y Aire framework, El Almacén screens “La ola” and “La danza de Lunja y sus sombras.” The Cine Club Lanzarote offers “¡Vampiros en La Habana!” and the Cine Buñuel cycle includes “La materia del cosmos.” For younger audiences, Cine Juventud Lanzarote presents “Better Man.”
Music: Falla Ensemble and Noches de Jameos
On Saturday, April 25 at 8:00 pm, the Teatro Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero” hosts a concert by Falla Ensemble. Tickets at culturalanzarote.sacatuentrada.es.
Every Friday throughout the month, Noches de Jameos transforms the Jameos del Agua space into an evening combining gourmet dining with island produce, D.O. Lanzarote wines and a concert beside the underground lake. Booking essential at cactlanzarote.com.
Sonidos Líquidos: Tiburona at Casa Ajei
On the weekend of April 25-26, Sonidos Líquidos continues its Belingueo season. On Saturday the 25th, the festival crosses to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. On Sunday the 26th, the music returns to Lanzarote with Tiburona at Casa Ajei in San Bartolomé: live music, D.O. Lanzarote wines and local gastronomy in one of the island’s most charming farmsteads. Tickets sell fast (95% of the season was already sold in March).

Volcano Triathlon: 42 editions challenging the volcano
On Saturday, April 25, Club La Santa hosts the 42nd edition of the Volcano Triathlon, the longest-running triathlon in Spain and one of the oldest in Europe. Olympic distance: 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run, on a course that cuts through the volcanic landscape of the municipality of Tinajo. On Friday the 24th, Volcano Kids lets younger athletes (ages 7-17) compete in adapted distances.

Wine and landscape: hiking at Bodega Rocanegra
On Saturday, April 25, the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Vinos de Lanzarote organizes a hiking route through vineyards at Bodega Rocanegra. April is a special month in La Geria: the Malvasía Volcánica vines show their first green shoots in the hollows protected by dry-stone walls — a cultivation system unique in the world that UNESCO recognizes as part of the Biosphere Reserve.
Feria de Abril in Arrecife
After three editions that have steadily consolidated the event (25,000 attendees in 2025), the Feria de Abril Ciudad de Arrecife is expected to return in 2026. The Arrecife Town Council has not yet confirmed dates for this fourth edition, which transforms the José Ramírez Cerdá Park into a fair of sevillanas, flamenco, Andalusian gastronomy and equestrian shows. This article will be updated once dates are confirmed.
The Art, Culture and Tourism Centres
The seven CACT centres designed by César Manrique remain open throughout April with their regular program of family activities: workshops at the Cactus Garden (Wednesdays and Fridays), activities at Jameos del Agua (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays), and guided tours at Montañas del Fuego (Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays). With spring temperatures and the Holy Week tourist influx extending through the rest of the month, April is an ideal time to visit these spaces without the summer crowds.
Music Week: April 27-30
The Centro Insular de Enseñanzas Musicales (CIEM), in collaboration with the Arrecife Town Council, holds a new edition of Music Week from April 27 to 30 at the Teatro El Salinero and the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz. The program includes concerts by the youngest students, the advanced string orchestra, piano ensembles, the final of the 24th Interpretation Competition and a children’s opera. Free entry with invitation.
Coming up in May
Día de la Cruz (May 3) in Teguise and Tías, where homes are decorated with flower crosses. Sonidos Líquidos Belingueo at Bodega El Grifo (May 17). IRONMAN Lanzarote (May 23), one of the toughest races on the European circuit. And the Qualification Ceremony for the 2025 Vintage by D.O. Vinos de Lanzarote, scheduled for the first week of May at the Casa Museo del Campesino.
