August is the fullest month on the Lanzarote calendar. Arrecife celebrates its patron saint with two weeks of programming, La Geria harvests its grapes with camels, Famara fills up with trail runners and Puerto Calero hosts the world elite of competitive sailing. On top of that come the village patron fiestas, running almost without a break from one end of the island to the other. Here is what August 2026 holds.

Through August 9 — Fiestas del Carmen in Puerto del Carmen

The Carmen fiestas in Puerto del Carmen began in late July and close in the first days of August. The biggest nights are still ahead: on Thursday the 6th, a free David Bustamante concert at Plaza del Varadero. On Saturday the 8th, mass and the maritime procession of the Virgin, accompanied by the Los Buches seafaring parranda and the Iris del Mar choir, followed that night by the third La Tiñosa & Más Festival with Muchachito Bombo Infierno, Calle Boogaloo, Lucrecia and Mambo Latino. Sunday the 9th closes with the tin-boat regatta, sung mass, land procession, the final bola and fireworks.

August 13–15 — Famara Total

The eleventh edition of Famara Total turns Caleta de Famara back into the center of Canarian trail running. Organized by the Ayuntamiento de Teguise, the race spreads across three days: the Night Vertical on Thursday, the Chinija children’s race on Friday, and the main event on Saturday, with distances from 7.5 up to 45 kilometers plus a hiking option. The routes cross the Risco de Famara, ravines and coastal trails — it is one of the most spectacular races in the archipelago.

August 14–15 — The La Geria Grape Harvest

The Fiestas de la Virgen de La Caridad in La Geria are two days honoring the island’s wine sector, and the centerpiece is the traditional harvest with camels: growers, camel handlers and winemakers recreate the grape picking as it was done generations ago, at Bodega La Geria and the plots around it.

The usual pattern puts the Canarian tenderete with food and parranda bands on the evening of the 14th at Bodegas Rubicón, and the harvest on the morning of the 15th, followed by the religious service at the La Geria chapel. It is one of the most photographed sights of the year. A note for 2026: the real harvest started unusually early, back in July, because of the heat — the celebration on the 15th is a tribute, and it goes ahead.

Through August 25 — Fiestas de San Ginés, Arrecife

The capital’s biggest fiestas. Arrecife celebrates its patron saint on Tuesday the 25th, with close to two weeks of program leading up to it: free concerts on Reducto beach, lateen-sail and tin-boat races in the Charco de San Ginés, Canarian wrestling, tournaments, folk festivals, food stalls along the waterfront and children’s programming at La Recova.

August 24–29 — 52 SUPER SERIES Royal Cup, Puerto Calero

Lanzarote closes August with world-class sailing. The Puerto Calero Lanzarote 52 SUPER SERIES Royal Cup brings together thirteen TP52 boats — the high-performance monohulls known as the Formula 1 of sailing — for the fourth event of the season’s international circuit. It is the island’s second circuit event this summer after Marina Rubicón in July, and few destinations anywhere host two.

Racing is broadcast live in English and Spanish through the circuit’s official channels. From land, the best vantage point is around Puerto Calero.

Village fiestas across the island

August is the month of the village patron fiestas. San Bartolomé holds its celebrations through the month, with the popular romería as its best-attended event, and Los Remedios in Yaiza bridges the end of August into September. Alongside them come neighborhood fiestas in practically every municipality.

Municipal programs are published at short notice. It is worth checking the Ayuntamiento website for wherever you are staying: there is something on almost every night, and almost all of it is free.

The markets keep their usual schedule, the Cabildo’s art and culture centers continue their exhibitions, and August nights are the liveliest of the year in Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise.

Coming up in September

September brings the island’s largest fiesta: Nuestra Señora de los Dolores in Mancha Blanca, patroness of Lanzarote, with a romería that draws thousands and September 15 as an island-wide holiday. And Arrecife en Vivo returns, with its Gala on September 5 and free concert routes through the historic center on the 18th and 25th.
